President Mahmoud Abbas is scheduled to deliver an important speech before the United Nations General Assembly in New York on the 23rd of next month, today said the Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour.
He told Voice of Palestine radio that a meeting will be held between President Mahmoud Abbas and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the General Assembly meetings in New York in continuation of the effort made to ensure the success of the State of Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations and to make all the arguments in support of this in order to salvage the two-state solution.
Mansour said that he conveyed a message from the President to the Secretary-General about his meetings in the framework of preparations for the proposal for Palestine’s membership in the United Nations, in addition to other issues, which was welcomed by Guterres who said this would help the efforts because the State of Palestine deserves full membership after 10 years since obtaining observer status at the UN.
He said that efforts are continuing at all levels, starting with the meetings held by the President with his American counterpart Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II, as well as the continuous consultations with ambassadors and delegates at the United Nations to create a positive and appropriate atmosphere for the success of this effort so that representatives of governments and member states of the Security Council could decide on this issue, pointing to a meeting he held with the United States representative at the United Nations on this matter.
