Saeb Erekat, secretary general of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) stressed during a meeting with US lawmakers from California that ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories recognized by the United Nations is the viable and feasible solution.
Erekat stressed that the US decisions and Israeli policy of dictations are futile for the Palestinian people and their national leadership, which is armed with the national will based on historical right and international law.
Erekat said that US president Donald Trump’s successive decisions, the last of which was the declaration of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on settlements, are a disregard of international law just as the recent decisions he had made before on Jerusalem and refugees, and an attempt to alter the international truth and consensus.
He slammed the US decisions as trying to legalize theft, piracy, and taking the rights of others by force of arms, which he stressed is totally rejected by the Palestinian leadership and international community. “This will never force us to surrender no matter what the pressures are and the establishment of a Palestinian state is inevitable, doubt not.”
He stressed that the solution lies in having an Israeli side that believes in peace based on international law and not through dictations and implementing the apartheid and racist regime, which no matter how long it takes will eventually fall.
