Upon his arrival in Jordan this afternoon, President Mahmoud Abbas stressed that he is following developments in Jordan with great interest “because this matter concerns us as much as it matters to Jordan.”
President Abbas asked God “to protect Jordan and look after it and bestow on it stability, security and safety under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, whom we wish to remain strong and persevere because he is the guardian of this country and its caretaker.”
He added: “When these events occurred, we saw the whole world, without exception, standing by Jordan and by His Majesty, and this is evidence of the great respect and great interest in this peaceful and secure country, for which we always wish safety and security.”
Jordan announced yesterday that it has foiled an attempt to destabilize the country at the hands of several officials, including Prince Hamza of the royal family.
