The United Kingdom has announced an additional $20.7m in funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), bringing the total UK contribution to $66m for 2020, today said a British Consulate press release.
“The UK remains a top donor to UNRWA and will continue to support the Agency and its mandate until a just, fair, agreed and realistic settlement for Palestinian refugees is found,” said the press release.
The UK’s contribution will help to provide education to more than 533,000 children, half of whom are girls, and access to health services for 3.5 million Palestinian refugees across the Middle East. It will also deliver emergency food supplies to over 1 million refugees in Gaza.
UNRWA provides protection and support to Palestinian refugees across the region. $7.8m of the UK’s additional $20.7m in financial support to UNRWA will go towards life-saving assistance for the 438,000 Palestinian refugees in Syria.
