The official spokesman for the Palestinian presidency, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, said that the Palestinian leadership is awaiting the position of the US president-elect Joe Biden’s administration regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict, stressing that any moves during the upcoming period will be based on the new US administration’s position.
He said during an interview with Voice of Palestine Radio that if Biden’s administration recognizes the United Nations resolutions regarding Palestine and takes positions contrary to Trump’s administration, the Palestinian leadership will begin in due course to reopen the Palestinian file in the international arena through the UN General Assembly and the Quartet for Middle East peace.
He added that President Mahmoud Abbas’s contacts with world leaders are ongoing for the convening of an international peace conference that would lead to an end to the occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, pointing out that the international stances in rejection of settlements are reassuring.
The presidential spokesman affirmed the Palestinian people’s adherence to their right to establish an independent Palestinian state on the pre-1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital, stating that: “Nothing will happen without the consent of the Palestinian people and leadership and in accordance with international law and legitimacy.”
