Marking the annual National Day for the Palestinian Woman, the Prisoner Society said today that Israel is holding 34 women freedom fighters, among them eight are mothers.
It said the women prisoners are living in very difficult conditions and denied their basic rights.
The longest serving woman prisoner is Amal Taqatqa, from Bethlehem, who has been in prison for resisting the occupation since December 2014 and serving a seven-year sentence.
Two women prisoners, Shurouq Dwayyat and Shatila Ayyad, are each serving a 16-year sentence, while Maysoon Mousa and Aisha Afghani are serving a 15-year sentence each.
Isra Jaabis, from Jerusalem, is serving an 11-year sentence and is considered the most suffering inside prison due to her severe injuries and burns she suffered when the car she was in blew up when she was detained.
Prisoners’ advocacy groups said Israel detained more than 16,000 Palestinian women since the start of the occupation in 1967.
