Head of the Detainees Affairs Commission, Qadri Abu Bakr, Minister of Health, Mai Kaileh, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) confirmed today that there are not yet any cases of novel COVID-19 (coronavirus) among Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails.
During an extraordinary meeting in Ramallah that discussed the latest developments concerning the Palestinian political prisoners in Israel, the officials said that following official communications with Israeli authorities regarding the health of the prisoners, they were reassured that no prisoners have beenere diagnosed with COVID-19. Some prisoners, nevertheless, were quarantined as a precautionary measure.
There are more than 5000 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention for resisting the Israeli occupation of their homeland, with 400 administrative detainees held in custody without a charge or trial.
