Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh said today that since President Mahmoud Abbas has launched his initiative to hold elections in Palestine and the Palestinian factions have agreed to them, “we are still awaiting the Israeli response regarding holding elections in Jerusalem and we will not accept that Jerusalem is not a part of the Palestinian elections.”
This came in his speech at a reception for the lighting of the Christmas tree held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates at its headquarters in Ramallah in the presence of members of the diplomatic corps and government ministers.
“We urge you to intervene and put pressure on Israel to allow elections to be held in Jerusalem, and we want you to be part of the elections process and monitor them,” he said addressing the foreign diplomats. “We want to reunite the homeland and end the geographical and demographic divide in the homeland.”
