The United Kingdom urged Israel today to halt its “counterproductive” settlement expansion, saying it was illegal under international law.
The Foreign & Commonwealth Office reiterated its position on the settlements after the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated on Monday that the Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank were legal, and they do not contradict with international law.
“The position of the UK on settlements is clear. They are illegal under international law, present an obstacle to peace, and threaten the viability of a two-state solution. We urge Israel to halt its counterproductive settlement expansion,” the Foreign Office said on its website.
