The UN Security Council, chaired by British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, is scheduled to hold a briefing on Monday under the item “The situation in the Middle East”, entitled “Ending war and establishing lasting peace”
The Council is scheduled to hear a briefing from the Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland.
The UK, which chairs the Council this month, has planned a concept note for Monday’s session, which states that ending the war in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, and focusing on ensuring a broader regional calm through an end to the conflict.
In accordance with the concept note, the session provides an opportunity to reflect on how the Council can “inject renewed momentum into efforts to end conflicts in the region, and to discuss how the end of the conflict could represent a turning point that would put the region on the path to a stable and secure future based on a two-state solution.”
