Palestinian officials and institutions continued today to speak in support of President Mahmoud Abbas while denouncing a campaign led by Israel following his press conference in Germany on Tuesday that they said is aimed at him and the Palestinian people and cause.
Mahmoud al-Aloul, the deputy head of the Fatah movement, said, “The campaign of incitement against President Mahmoud Abbas is due to his strong adherence to the issues and constants of our people, despite the pressures that are being exerted on him, especially regarding the issue of allowances for the families of martyrs and prisoners.”
He told Voice of Palestine radio that the campaign against the President is an attempt to escape from the basic entitlements related to the crimes of the occupation and to evade answering questions related to ending the occupation and settlements, and all the crimes committed against the Palestinian people, in addition to going to the Security Council and the United Nations to obtain full membership.
Palestine Liberation Organization official, Wasel Abu Yousef, also told Voice of Palestine that the campaign against President Abbas aims to satisfy Israel and cover up the crimes of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people, stressing that the campaign will not prevent the Palestinian people from continuing to seek national independence.
Another PLO official, Saleh Rafat, told Voice of Palestine that the campaign against President Abbas has strengthened national unity and has reinforced Palestinian determination to confront the occupation at all levels.
The campaign against the President targets the Palestinian people and their just cause and attempts to mislead the world regarding the daily crimes committed against the Palestinian people in the occupied territories.
President Abbas also received a telephone call from the deputy secretary general of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), Jamil Mizher, expressing support for the President in light of the campaign against him, and stressing that the PFLP stands behind the President in his efforts to defend the Palestinian people and their just cause.
The Grand Mufti of Palestine and Jerusalem, Sheikh Mohammad Hussein, expressed in an interview with Voice of Palestine support for President Abbas while condemning the campaign waged by Israel against him “after telling the truth about the massacres and crimes” the Israeli army commit against the Palestinian people.
“The Israeli occupation seeks to overturn the facts through a campaign of incitement to kill the Palestinian narrative that documents the crimes of the occupying power which tries to demonize everything that is Palestinian while making the criminal appear as the victim,” he said, calling on the international community to hold the occupying power accountable for its crimes instead of its double standard approach and covering up the crimes of the Israeli occupiers when the crime is committed against the Palestinian people.
The Palestinian NGOs Network (PNGO) condemned the campaign of incitement against President Mahmoud Abbas, saying it aims to undermine the justice of the Palestinian cause and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
It said it stands behind the President in confronting the crimes of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people, implementing international resolutions calling for their protection, and hold the occupying power accountable for the brutal crimes it has committed and continues to commit on daily basis against the Palestinian people and their holy places.
