Major-General Talal Dwaikat, spokesman for the Palestinian security forces, said today that the committee in charge of investigating the death of Nizar Banat, a political activist from the West Bank city of Hebron, has begun its works and will announce the results shortly upon the end of the investigation.
Dwaikat told official Voice of Palestine radio that the government will have to take the necessary measures in accordance with the results of the investigation. He stressed that the government was keen on consolidating the principles of transparency, accountability and credibility.
“The government is highly interested in revealing the circumstances of Banat’s death. The file will be referred to the judicial authorities if the death was proved to be premediated,” said Dwaikat.
He affirmed the government’s commitment to the results of the investigation, and that the government will deal with the results of the investigation with maximum transparency and credibility.
