The Palestinian political factions affirmed today the necessity of completing the electoral process in all its stages, including nomination, voting, and campaigning, throughout the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967, stating that: There are no elections without Jerusalem, and that Israel, the occupying power, has no veto powers over it.
During a meeting held in Ramallah to discuss the upcoming general elections, the factions called upon the international community, including the United Nations, the European Union, Russia, China, and all the parties that were asked by the PA to exert pressure on the occupying power, Israel, to not put obstacles in the way of holding elections in all its stages across the occupied territories, including East Jerusalem, the capital of the Palestinian state.
They underscored the need for all factions to make the holding of elections as part of a comprehensive popular resistance across the pre-1967 occupied territories, calling on all factions, unions, and parties to assume their responsibilities and to jointly prepare to fight the battle against the occupation, for the sake of the electoral battle and all the legitimate national rights for freedom and independence in accordance with the laws and resolutions of international legitimacy.
The Palestinian Authority is preparing to hold elections to the Palestinian Legislative Council on 22 of May, the presidency on July 31, and the Palestinian National Council on Aug 31.
