The intra-Palestinian national dialogue that is supposed to discuss the upcoming legislative and presidential elections is going to kick off in Cairo on February 8, today said Jibril Rjoub, member of Fatah Central Committee.
He said that the Palestinian delegations of the various political factions are expected to arrive in Cairo on February 7.
“We are going to the Cairo dialogue, as President Mahmoud Abbas said, with open minds in order to reach the results that our Palestinian people wish for and serve our just cause,” he said.
The factions are expected to discuss the political and technical issues related to holding the legislative elections in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip on May 22 and the presidential elections on July 31, as well as elections for the Palestinian National Council, the parliament exile, set for August 31.
The last presidential elections were held in March 2005 and the legislative elections in January 2006.
President Abbas issued earlier last month decrees for holding legislative and presidential elections consecutively, and the elections law was also amended to allow only proportional elections through political lists after excluding elections for districts.
