President Mahmoud Abbas is set to deliver two speeches to United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), scheduled to convene from September 15 to 30, according to a Palestinian official.
Speaking to the official Voice of Palestine radio, Palestine’s permanent envoy to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, said that President Abbas is set to deliver a recorded speech on Monday on the 75th anniversary for the adoption of the UN Charter in which he is expected to highlight the goals of the creation of the UN and the right of peoples and nations to self-determination.
Abbas is set to deliver another speech before the UNGA general discussion on Friday, September 25, addressing the current challenges to the Palestinian question, including the US-touted Mideast plan, dubbed deal of the century, Israel’s annexation plan, colonial settlement construction and the recent wave of Arab-Israeli normalization.
UNGA opens its 75th session on Tuesday, 15 September, at the UN headquarters in New York.
Among the items related to Palestine placed on the UNGA session are an item on the situation if the Middle East, another on the Question of Palestine, and another on the UN agency responsible for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA).
Among the reports to be discussed in the session is the Report of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories.
