Nabil Abu Rudaieh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, said today that only the Palestinian people, and not the United States or Israel, has the right to draw the map of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He said the recent meeting of the secretary-generals of the Palestinian factions, headed by President Abbas, sends a “strong and clear message that lays the foundation of a new phase of steadfastness in the face of all the conspiracies targeting our cause”.
“The meeting carried the message of the Palestinian people and their leadership to all, that this is the historic moment to protect our homeland, sanctities and national identity,” Abu Rudeineh added.
He continued, “In his important speech before the meeting in which he spoke on behalf of the Palestinian people, President Mahmoud Abbas set a new dimension for the next phase, based on the inclusive relationship of the Palestinian people, built upon the national constants and the high interests of our people.”
“Having the courage to take serious positions at this critical stage that the Palestinian issue is going through marks the beginning of an important stage for thwarting the colonial intervention on the land of Palestine,” said Abu Rudeineh. “The unified Palestinian people and leadership will maintain our national constants in order to establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders.”
“By preserving Jerusalem and its sanctities and preserving the independent national decision led by the Palestine Liberation Organization under the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas, and with the resilience of the Palestinian people and their determination and will, we will overcome the dangerous stage that threatens the future of the entire region,” he concluded.
