The Palestinian Authority’s Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs said today that the 20 minor prisoners currently detained in the Israeli prison of Damon are living in bad conditions caused by the Israeli Prison Service (IPS).
The Commission said in a statement that the section 1 in Damon, where all the 20 minors are incarcerated, is not suitable for humans to live in due to the infestation of rats and mosquitos, as well as the lack of lighting and ventilation. In addition, the bathrooms are located inside the rooms and without doors attached to them. The prisoners are also deprived of hot water.
The commission pointed out that the prisoners are facing a high risk of a coronavirus outbreak since they exposed to direct contact with the jailers.
According to Israeli human rights group B’Tselem, at the end of June 2020, at least 151 Palestinian minors were held in Israeli prisons as security detainees and prisoners, at least two of whom were held in administrative detention.
