Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, affirmed that the national position taken by the Palestinian leadership is clear and unwavering.
He said in response to claims circling the media, citing Israeli sources, about Palestinian-American contacts that the Palestinian position rejects annexation plans, either full or partial, as well as American-Israeli maps. “It’s a principle issue,” he said.
He said that dialogue must be based on UN resolutions, the Arab peace initiative, and president Mahmoud Abbas’ peace plan proposed at the United Nations Security Council, the principle of the two-state solution, ending the Israeli occupation, and the establishment the independent state of Palestine on the pre1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The spokesman affirmed on behalf of the presidency that Israel must assume full responsibility as an occupying power if goes ahead with annexation.
