The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned today the recent Israeli incitement campaign on the European Union, for its support of the Palestinian people and civil society organizations.
The Ministry condemned in a statement the “campaign of intimidation and blackmail practiced by the [Israeli] occupation against these national organizations, which defend human rights… The purpose of the campaign is to silence the voices of human rights advocates in Palestine and weaken the work of civil society organizations and their leaders.”
It said the Israeli occupation’s demand for the EU to stop funding these organizations aims at hiding the truth, especially at a time the Israeli government is planning to annex lands in the occupied West Bank, in clear violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
The Ministry expressed its appreciation for the European Union and all its institutions for their support of the Palestinian people and civil society organizations.
“The Israeli occupation and its settlers are the ones whose funding must be stopped, just as the support for the Israeli colonial system in occupied Palestinian state must be stopped, not the civil society organizations that monitor the crimes of the occupation,” said the Ministry.
The Ministry called on the European parliaments and institutions and all countries of the world to reject the Israeli incitement campaign, false accusations and intimidation against the European Union, Palestinian human rights organizations and other actors in the civil society.
It also called on the member states of the European Union and the international community to activate the international accountability mechanisms, and take deterrent measures to hold Israel, the occupying power, to account for its crimes, intimidation and blackmail.
