President Mahmoud Abbas Tuesday proposed in a letter sent to the United Nations Secretary General António Guterres the creation of an international mechanism to examine the coronavirus crisis.
In the letter, President Abbas proposed the creation of a coordinated international mechanism of experts in various fields that would examine this global phenomenon and its implications, derive lessons, submit recommendations on the optimal mechanisms to deal with and contain the pandemic.
He warned that the novel coronavirus crisis entails grave humanitarian, social, cultural, economic and even political consequences for the world, and could lead to yet a no less serious crisis.
Abbas added that it is very important for the future of humanity to commence international efforts at the institutional level and create a committee to be in charge of examining a mechanism to distribute the health and economic burden of the crisis in order to spare humanity the future risks and implications of this unprecedented moment.
