The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates affirmed today that the decision of the First Pre-Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court regarding the rejection of the Prosecutor’s request related to regional jurisdiction in the situation in Palestine was for technical reasons and does not exceed the issue of the number of approved pages in the memo submitted by the Prosecutor in accordance with the procedures followed, and a request that the Prosecutor re-submits the memo in accordance with the approved criteria in such cases.
The Ministry also said that the First Pre-Trial Chamber confirmed that the situation in Palestine is a special case which allows for exceeding the number of pages approved in the Procedures Manual, with the need to take into account the formal requirements of requesting permission in advance in order to do so.
“In this context, the Foreign Ministry confirms that it is closely following and monitoring the correctness of the procedures followed by the International Criminal Court to ensure that the procedures are conducted in a fair and transparent manner, and that it will continue to present the Court with all necessary information and documents that affirm its competence to consider the situation in Palestine in a manner that ensures accountability for Israeli war criminals and not their impunity for all their crimes against the Palestinian people,” concluded the ministry’s statement.
