Israeli forces detained 2759 Palestinians during the first six months of this year, including 446 minors and 76 women, Palestinian prisoners advocacy groups reported.
The Prisoners Affairs Commission, the Prisoner Society and Addameer stated in a joint working paper said that the number of Palestinian political prisoners incarcerated in Israeli jails until June 30 was 5500, including 43 women and 220 minors, while the number of Palestinians incarcerated in administrative detention without charge or trial was around 500.
Meanwhile, seven Palestinians held in administrative detention are continuing with their hunger strike demanding an end to their illegal detention, said the Palestinian Prisoner Society.
The longest was Jaafar Izzeddin, from Jenin, who has been on hunger strike for 30 days and who had already observed four previous hunger strikes.
It said the Israel Prison Service has taken punitive action against the striking prisoners, including denying them family visits, obstructing meetings with their lawyers, transferring them to other prisons, isolating them in uninhabitable cells and around the clock harassment.
