President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday said the Israel’s decision to deduct money from the Palestinian security prisoners and their families’ revenues is an act of piracy.
President Abbas said that the PA will refuse to accept any payment from Israel that is ‘missing one penny’, ”Either we get all our money and rights, or we won’t accept one penny from them.” Abbas added He also vowed to continue financial aid to the prisoners and the families of Palestinian martyrs, stressed that the issue of the families of prisoners and martyrs remains on the top of the PA leadership’s list of priorities.
Abbas accused Israel of trying to put political pressure on him and violating longstanding economic agreements. He said it would be the “final nail in the coffin” of those agreements.
Israeli occupation announced this week that it will withhold over $138 million in revenues that it says the Palestinians used as stipends for Palestinian attackers and their families, the monthly tax transfers cover about two-thirds of the Palestinian budget.
