The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) today warned that the Israeli occupation forces are obstructing the work of its medical crews in light of the grave events taking place in the occupied Palestinian territories as a result of a range of violations carried out by the Israeli authorities against Palestinians and their properties.
It stressed in a statement that its medical crews are being subjected to various violations by the Israeli military, including preventing and impeding access to the injured to provide them with the necessary timely emergency medical assistance which puts their lives at risk.
Since the beginning of this month PRCS has recorded five cases of denial of access to the injured, in addition to three cases of assault on its crews, and an attack on an ambulance after being directly targeted by the occupation soldiers.
It slammed such measures as a clear violation of the provisions of international humanitarian law, in particular the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 regarding the protection of civilians in times of war.
PRCS called on the international community, represented by the United Nations General Assembly, the UN Security Council, international human rights and humanitarian bodies and organizations, and the state parties to the Geneva Conventions, to pressure the occupation authorities to stop their violations of its medical tasks and to comply with the provisions of international humanitarian law.
