On International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people, the State of Palestine affirmed the importance of recalling the permanent historic, political, and legal responsibility of the United Nations towards the Palestinian people.
“The State of Palestine salutes friends and supporters of the Palestinian people from around the world and their support for our noble cause for freedom and self-determination,” said the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in a statement.
“Their steadfast solidarity is manifest in effective actions that hold the occupying power accountable for its crimes and confront its impunity with actionable measures. Thanks to them, our dignified struggle for freedom remains an essential component of the global movement for justice, and our message of hope and justice echoes in all corners of the world,” said the statement.
On this occasion, it is deeply tragic that 74 years of an ongoing and cruel Nakba, including the dispossession, displacement, and oppression of the Palestinian people have not compelled the international community to mobilize and address the root causes of this unlawful situation. Such derogation of responsibility has allowed the situation to further deteriorate, undermining Palestinian rights and the prospects for achieving a just and peaceful solution, it added.
“The Palestinian people have been held captive for more than half-century by occupation and the international community must recognize this disastrous situation for what it is. This is a man-made crisis that will only continue to worsen if immediate measures are not taken to reign in Israel, the occupying Power, and bring a halt to its unlawful actions, including its colonial apartheid regime. The international community, including the United Nations, have the duty to act quickly and responsibly to end the illegal occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and to the decades of dispossession of Palestine refugees, which constitute the root causes of the ongoing brutality that started in 1947.”
“On this day, it is important to recall the permanent historic, political, and legal responsibility of the United Nations towards the Palestinian people and to reaffirm the State of Palestine’s call to the United Nations to ensure protection for the Palestinian people and work to end Israel’s illegal occupation. In this regard, the State of Palestine calls on the United Nations to convene an international conference under the auspices of the Quartet to reach a just solution to the Question of Palestine, based on international law and United Nations resolutions,” said the ministry.
“The State of Palestine commends United Nations Committees on the inalienable rights of the Palestinian People for its work in upholding the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and calls on the international community to positively engage with the Committee in order to ensure it can fulfill its mandate,” the statement concluded.
