The European Union intends to disperse in the coming days or weeks part of its financial commitment to the Palestinian Authority to help it pay part of its employees’ salaries, today said Shadi Othman, spokesman for the EU in Jerusalem.
He told WAFA in a telephone interview that the Palestinian government is facing unprecedented financial difficulties and the EU is closely monitoring its situation with the Finance Ministry and the Prime Minister.
Othman reiterated the EU’s strong objections to Israel’s settlement activities in the occupied territories, particularly its recent announcement of 3000 new settlement housing units, calling on the Israeli government not to proceed with the construction of thousands of settlement units in the West Bank and Jerusalem because they violate international law, pointing to the EU’s latest statement on this.
