President Mahmoud Abbas made a phone call tonight to Minister of Justice Mohammad Shalaldeh, who is heading the impartial investigation committee formed to look into the death of activist Nizar Banat after his arrest by the security forces in his house in Hebron, to ensure the smooth functioning of the investigation.
The president directed to expedite the completion of the commission’s investigations to let the legal system take its course in this case.
President Abbas stressed the need for the committee to act with complete impartiality to uncover the whole truth and uphold the rule of law.
The findings of the investigation committee are expected to be released within two days.
