The legislative, presidential and Palestinian National Council elections will be a practical step to achieve reconciliation and national unity, Mohamed Ghareeb, Secretary-General of Fatah Movement in Egypt, told Prensa Latina today.
Dr.Ghareeb stressed that the end of the division is necessary for the Palestinian freedom and independence project.
Elections are a citizen’s right that determines the legitimacy of government structures.
“We, as Fatah movement in Egypt, support the decisions of our leaders and will contribute to the success of the election process,” Dr.Ghareeb said.
“We are pioneers of the Revolution and of the Palestinian struggle, firm defenders of the interests and the will of the people,” Ghareeb stressed.
From Cairo, Fatah members will promote attendance at the polls through the media, propaganda and direct communication with family and friends.
Palestinians from the diaspora will not participate in the legislative elections, nor in the presidential elections scheduled for the months of May and July respectively.
Residents in the national territory will vote for the first time in 15 years.
Refugees abroad will have representatives in the National Council, the legislative council of the Palestine Liberation Organization, to be formed after the elections on August 31 next.
