Foreign Affairs Minister Riyad al-Malki Monday evening reiterated Palestine’s readiness to engage in serious negotiations based on international law.
Speaking during the emergency meeting of the emergency meeting of the Arab League foreign ministers in Cairo, Malki reiterated Palestine’s readiness to engage in serious negotiations through convening an international peace conference based on the foundations of international law and relevant references within a clear specified timeframe.
He added that the international conference on Middle East peace should be led by the Quartet with the purpose of ending the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and helping the Palestinian people gain its freedom and independence, uphold its inalienable rights and safeguard its holy sites.
He urged the Arab countries to defend the Palestinian question and support the Palestinian people in their quest to realize their legitimate rights, including the right to establish their independent, viable, sovereign and territorially contiguous state, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He considered the decision of the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I that the court has jurisdiction over the situation in the Palestinian territories as a proof of the crimes committed by Israel, the occupying and settler-colonialism state, as he expressed his hope that the ICC General Prosecutor opens an investigation into these crimes in the fastest possible time.
He emphasized the State of Palestine’s commitment to the Arab Peace Initiative and expressed his hope that US President Joe Biden’s administration would form a broader vision and a better understanding of the situation in Palestine.
