The Arab League Council at the level of foreign ministers demanded Israel to respond to the Arab Peace Initiative by immediately resuming peace negotiations.
The extraordinary session, requested by Egypt and Jordan, kicked off earlier today to discuss various important issues related to Arab national security, including the Palestinian cause.
The Council stressed the adherence of the Arab countries to the two-state solution, the Arab peace initiative, and the principle of land for peace, considering this solution as the only way to achieve a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
They also called on Israel to respond to the Arab peace initiative by resuming peace negotiations based on international references.
The Council urged all international parties, including the United Nations and the International Quartet, to take practical steps in order to launch credible negotiations that address all final status issues and lead to an end to the Israeli occupation of the occupied Palestinian territory in 1967.
The ministers welcomed the International Criminal Court’s ruling that it has jurisdiction over the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
They also welcomed the decision of Palestine to hold elections, and the recent efforts made to achieve Palestinian reconciliation, appreciating efforts made by Egypt to end the internal division.
