Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu affirmed today his country’s support of a Palestinian-Israeli peace process that is based on the principle of two states as well as on international resolutions.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad al-Malki in Ramallah, Aurescu said his visit aims at reinforcing mutual relations between Romania and Palestine not only at the diplomatic level, but also at the level of education due to its importance in building the future of Palestine and its institutions.
Meanwhile, al-Malki said his meeting with the Romanian counterpart discussed the overall situation in the region and the political situation in Palestine in particular, especially following the United States’ announcement of the so-called “deal of the century” peace plan and the Israeli annexation plan.
Al-Maliki explained that it was agreed to hold a meeting of the Joint Governmental Committee early next year in Palestine, and to activate the agreements signed between the two countries.
He praised the Romanian government’s scholarships for Palestinian students, as well as for its commitment to support the UNRWA, and its efforts in building the Palestinian institutions.
