During a telephone call from his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President Mahmoud Abbas discussed tonight the latest political developments, internal Palestinian conditions, and bilateral relations between their two countries.
President Abbas briefed Steinmeier on the latest political developments related to the Palestinian cause and reviewed the internal Palestinian dialogue as well as the current ongoing discussions that would lead to holding elections in the near future.
He also thanked Germany for its economic support and assistance to build the institutions and infrastructure of the Palestinian state, in addition to its support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA), and the quick response to provide Palestine with special assistance to help it face the Corona pandemic.
The two leaders agreed that international law and legitimacy should be applied with regard to the Palestinian issue.
For his part, the German President, whose country presides over the European Union, affirmed Germany’s commitment to the two-state solution and the European position in support of this solution on the basis of international law.
He also affirmed Germany’s continued economic support to the Palestinian people in various fields.
