Minister of Labor Nasri Abu Jaish said today that an agreement worth $600 thousand has been signed with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), under which a lump sum of $5,000 will be offered in compensation to each one of about 100 small and micro enterprises in Palestine that have been badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Abu Jaish told official Voice of Palestine radio that this agreement was in response to the ministry’s plan to reinforce the resilience of SMEs in the tourism and service sectors that have been worst hit by the current state of recession caused by the pandemic.
He said a committee will be formed by the Ministry of Labor, the Employment Fund and the UNDP to determine the facilities that will be targeted by the said financial assistance, on condition that the facility should have not laid off any of its employees during the pandemic.
He pointed out that the agreement will enter into force next month, and said a link will be available on the ministry’s website within two days where the affected facilities can fill out the required forms for a transparent scrutiny.
