The 154th session of the Arab League Council kicked off on Monday at the level of permanent delegates to prepare for the meeting of Arab foreign ministers, which will be held on Wednesday.
The delegation of Palestine was headed by the alternate ambassador to the Arab League, Muhannad al-Aklouk.
Today’s meeting, which is chaired by Palestine, will discuss a number of political, economic, social, and health issues in the Arab world, with the developments of the Palestinian cause and the Arab-Israeli conflict on top.
The meeting will also focus on the need to activate the Arab Peace Initiative, follow up on ongoing developments in Jerusalem, settlements, refugees as well as supporting the budget of Palestine.
The delegates will also discuss Arab cooperation in confronting the spread of coronavirus.
The representative of Palestine to the Arab League, Ambassador Diab Al-Louh, who is also the chair of the session, said the session comes while the Palestinian issue is going through a complicated phase that has not been witnessed before.
He added that the Palestinian leadership has repeatedly affirmed that it does not interfere in the internal affairs of Arab countries, but it also reaffirmed the demand of Arab countries to respect the independence of the Palestinian national decision and the inalienable national rights of the Palestinian people.
Among these rights, he said, is ending the Israeli colonial occupation of the lands occupied on the 5th of June 1967, including occupied Jerusalem.
Al-Louh reiterated adherence to the peace option as a strategic choice to resolve the conflict with Israel, stressing that the basis of the peace process is a two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, the principle of land for peace, multiple international references, and President Mahmoud Abbas’s vision for peace.
