President Mahmoud Abbas discussed in a telephone conversation with his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo the latest political developments in the region.
After exchanging congratulations on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha holiday, which coincides on Friday, President Abbas briefed the Indonesian President on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and the efforts made by the Palestinian leadership to prevent the implementation of the Israeli annexation plans that will destroy all opportunities for achieving a just and lasting peace based on international legitimacy resolutions.
President Abbas expressed the gratitude of the Palestinian people and their leadership to the positions of Indonesia in international forums in support of the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to freedom and independence, and its continuation of this important role through its presidency of the UN Security Council next month, stressing the aspiration of the Palestinian leadership to strengthen the special bilateral relations between the two peoples and the two friendly countries.
The President reviewed the Palestinian efforts to confront the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, appreciating the support and assistance provided to the Palestinian government and UNRWA from Indonesia to combat the virus.\
For his part, the Indonesian President affirmed Indonesia’s firm an unyielding position in supporting the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent Palestinian state.
He stressed Indonesia’s rejection of all unilateral measures aimed at annexing Palestinian land in contravention of international law and international legitimacy resolutions.
The Indonesian President welcomed the dialogue between the Palestinian factions in order to unify the Palestinian position on the issue of annexation leading to complete Palestinian unity, and the exceptional efforts made by the State of Palestine to confront the coronavirus, stressing that Indonesia is working hard to control it.
In a generous gesture, the Indonesian President announced that he had instructed his government to provide urgent medical assistance to the Palestinians to tackle coronavirus.
