Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, said last night that there will either be an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders or there will be no peace, no security and no stability in the region.
Speaking after a meeting for the Fatah Central Committee held in Ramallah yesterday and chaired by President Abbas to discuss steps to be taken to prevent an Israeli annexation of parts of the occupied West Bank, Abu Rudeineh said that the issue of annexation is fundamental for the Palestinian leadership.
“The United States and Israel should fully understand that the message of the Palestinian people is clear: We will not accept annexation of even one centimeter. There will either be a Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, or there will be no security, no peace, and no stability in the region,” he said.
“We refuse to talk about the maps except on the negotiating table, if the basic conditions are met; negotiations on the basis of Palestinian and international legitimacy and the decisions of the National and Central Councils of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which will lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, and not on the basis of (US President Donald) Trump’s plan and Israeli annexation plans.”
Abu Rudeineh said the Central Committee has decided that the popular activities will continue at all levels and in all regions to confront the Israeli annexation plans.
One such popular activity is planned to be held on Monday in the ancient West Bank city of Jericho, located in the Jordan Valley, which Israel intends to annex starting July 1.
Abu Rudeineh said also that the Fatah Central Committee meeting discussed as well the coronavirus pandemic and ways to confront it in light of the recent large increase in number of cases in the West Bank.
