The Israeli annexation of occupied Palestinian lands should never be allowed to take place and should be nipped in the bud, Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riyad Malki, said today.
Addressing a virtual extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee at the level of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the Israeli government threat to annex parts of the West Bank held at the request of the State of Palestine, Malki stressed that the OIC, as an organization, has the resources, ties and capabilities to prevent this step.
He warned that if Israel is allowed to proceed with the annexation, it will perpetuate the conflict and Israeli colonialism, tear apart the state of Palestine on the pre-1967 borders, officially declare the cancelation of all agreements it has signed, end a negotiated settlement, and end the internationally-agreed on two-state solution.
He said that such a move would give Israel total control over Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam, in order to destroy it and build their alleged temple, which will transform the conflict from a political one to a religious conflict that will undermine stability, security and peace in the region and in the world.
Malki said that the Israeli government has intensified its crimes against the Palestinian Arab people supported by the American administration, which has adopted a position contrary to international law and international organization.
