President Mahmoud Abbas today evening pledged to take all necessary decisions and measures to safeguard the Palestinian national rights following Israel’s plan to further annex parts of the occupied Palestinian territories.
In a televised speech, President Abbas touched upon Israel’s plan to apply sovereignty over, or in other words to annex, the Jordan Valley and the illegal colonial settlements in the occupied West Bank, and addressed the current coronavirus crisis, urging Palestinians to cope with the restrictions of the coronavirus lockdown during the coming fasting month of Ramadan.
“Nobody should be under the illusion that they could exploit the current global occupation with the coronavirus pandemic crisis to encroach upon our national rights,” Abbas warned.
“We are on the lookout for anyone who might contemplate tampering with our right to or circumventing our firm national decision to establish our free and independent state on our territory with East Jerusalem as its capital in line with international legitimacy resolutions. We will take every decision or measures necessary to safeguard our national rights and fundamental principles,” he added.
Abbas pointed out that he would regard agreements with Israel and the United States “absolutely null” if Israel annexes any part of the occupied West Bank.
“We have informed the relevant international parties, including the American and Israeli governments, that we will not stand hand-cuffed if Israel announces the annexation of any part of our land. We will regard all agreements and understandings with these two governments absolutely null based on the relevant ]Palestinian[ National Council and Central Council’s resolutions.”
