President Mahmoud Abbas and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi held a meeting in Cairo on Saturday prior to an Arab League’s extraordinary session at the level of Arab foreign ministers called for to discuss the so-called deal of the century revealed by US President Donald Trump on Tuesday.
During the meeting, both leaders discussed the latest political developments, particularly the challenges facing the Palestinian issue after the announcement of Trump plan.
President Abbas stressed the necessity of defying the “deal of the century” at the Arab, regional and international levels, expressing appreciation for the Egyptian efforts and the importance of continuing the joint coordination.
For his part, President Sisi affirmed Egypt’s unwavering stance that supports Palestinian legitimacy under the leadership of President Abbas.
He noted that Egypt will keep supportingthe Palestinian people and their cause until they achieve their legitimate rights of having their independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
